Deco-Crete SupplyĪfter you’ve washed the release off your concrete grab a ball-peen hammer. It may seem counter-intuitive to the process, but using a ball-peen hammer to get rid of those annoying little cracks. Here are two things you can try next time this happens to you. Knowing how to control the surface from crusting over can certainly go a long way in avoiding this, but some days it just doesn’t seem to matter how hard you try you still end up with a few cracks on the surface of your concrete. Especially in the spring and fall when days are warm, and the nights are cool. Surface cracks have always been a battle for the stamped concrete contractor. There might not be anything you can do to control the weather, but you can learn how to fix some things after the fact. Things like temperature, sun and shade lines, or getting caught in the rain, as well as a number of other issues, can come up. While we all prefer things to just go as planned during the pouring and stamping process, we do still live in the real world and we all know how unpredictable a concrete project can be. In my opinion, one of the biggest things that separate high-end decorative contractors from the rest of the pack is the ability to know what can be repaired and how to go about it. You could recharge your swing by quickly using the grapple on crystals that are hanging around. Late in the game you need to use more than the allotted three swings to get to the next platform. A Story About My Uncle tries to alleviate this by putting glowing symbols onto the things I was supposed to grapple to, but if the rock is hidden behind a wall then I’m not going to see it anyway. Hidden in corners or well below what I normally see, the game felt more like it was testing my ability to quickly spot obscure rocks in difficult locations rather than getting from platform to platform. Worse is that the game has long frustrating segments where the next thing to grapple onto isn’t really clear. Segments when I got to towns sees my character slowed to abysmally slow walking speeds, waiting for characters to finish up long conversations so I can get back to swinging around. A later part sees me having to avoid the gaze of the only hostile creature in the game, a big one-eyed monster, and basically play “red light green light” with it. ![]() In a game that seemed to be about building and keeping speed, it feels like it always wanted me to stop and wait for it to do something. Even from the start I found myself constantly in challenges where I was waiting for something to spin, flip, rotate, or move before I could jump to it and continue to platform. I’m not sure why it choose to do this, but it feels like A Story About My Uncle was going out of its way to prevent me from just enjoying the simple act of swinging around on a grappling hook. …Or at least I should have felt that way, in theory. Once I did figure out the controls I felt pretty good jumping and swinging from platform to platform. In the early stages of the game I found myself falling into the pits often while I became accustomed to everything. The game has a bit of a learning curve to it, trying to understand when the best time to detach the hook so you can swing forward or when it was the best time to use your rocket dash, took some getting used to. Using these few skills I found myself having to navigate across groups of floating island and large caves, trying to avoid falling to my death. I could preform super jumps or long jumps, use the grappling hook to swing from objects, and later in the game got rocket boots that allowed me to preform a midair dash. I can already tell this grappling hook is going to take me placesĪ Story About My Uncle also suffers from inconsistent gameplay, which is a shame as I don’t think the ideas were all that bad and its heart is in the right place. The ending also fails to hit any kind of dramatic notes, having a weird moral shoehorned in at the last moment and honestly coming off more stupid than heart warming. Another character, a frog girl named Maddie, sounds more annoying than anything else. The father sounds really monotone, like he’s either bored or unsure of his lines. Still, I found the game’s emotional scenes to fall flat, especially thanks to the game’s particularly weak voice acting. The father’s journey is interesting and along the way he sees some interesting sights and meets a weird race of frog-people, all while telling little stories of uncle Fred’s eccentric ways. It’s a simple tale that seems to be aimed for a younger crowd mostly, which makes sense considering it’s supposed to be a bedtime story. Using this he begins a journey to find his uncle Fred. ![]() All he finds, however, is an “adventuring suit” that includes a grappling hook. After Fred has disappeared for months the father decides to go searching for him. ![]() A first person platformer with heavy focus on an energy grappling hook, does the game manage to fly high or should this story be kept quiet?Īs one would probably expect from the title, A Story About My Uncle is a bedtime story told by a father to his daughter about his uncle Fred. ![]() A Story About My Uncle is hoping to change that. Despite the relative popularity of the game, we never really saw much more in the way of first person platforming. In 2008 we saw Mirror’s Edge, a first person parkour game with heavy platforming elements. * Information listed above is at the time of submission. To tolerate other people's actions and expect them to tolerate one's own. ![]() It is anticipated that this would help in accelerating the insertion of new material to service through a better understanding of processing, evolution of microstructural features and mechanical property response. This proposed work will also serve as a launching pad for future full scale manufacturing process optimization analysis based on fatigue life of jet engine components under service conditions. ![]() It is expected that this link will help in understanding and optimizing the processing window during the manufacture of jet engine components to push the existing limits of jet engine performance in service. This link will also provide an improved understanding of interaction of microstructural features and residual stresses on mechanical property response under service conditions. This would make it possible to optimize the design process and improve component performance by directly incorporating material and manufacturing variables into the assessment of component lifing and reliability. Building a link between manufacturing processing models and probabilistic lifing analysis will facilitate a genuine Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) methodology in analyzing the design and manufacture of a jet engine component. Integrating process modeling with probabilistic lifing will provide more accurate predictions of rotor fatigue life and its variability by including location-specific descriptions of residual stress evolution resulting from prior thermo-mechanical processes as well as the service conditions along with microstructural characteristics, and material anomaly size and orientation. BENEFIT: It is anticipated that a proposed link between process modeling results of DEFORM and DARWIN will enhance the accuracy of fatigue life and risk assessment of jet engine components, thus greatly benefiting the jet engine industry. Our team will work closely with all the major jet engine OEMs to develop an implementation plan so as to maximize the benefits of linking processing models with probabilistic lifing methods. We propose to define an infrastructure in DEFORM to include sensitivity analysis and probabilistic models, specifically to address uncertainties in processing conditions, material data and boundary conditions. We will investigate a modeling framework for process optimization in DEFORM to effectively link process modeling results with probabilistic lifing method predictions. At the end of phase I, we intend to demonstrate a proof of concept model for linking DEFORM and DARWIN, specifically studying the effects of residual stress predictions from DEFORM under thermo-mechanical processing conditions on probabilistic lifing predictions of DARWIN for a generic jet engine disk. Scientific Forming Technologies Corporation is teaming with Southwest Research Institute® in this project to develop a framework to link the process modeling system, DEFORM with the probabilistic lifing modeling system DARWIN®. Currently there is no capability available where the detailed manufacturing process modeling results can be directly used in probabilistic lifing analysis. Using the integrated process modeling system DEFORM, it is possible to predict the evolution of critical life limiting factors during thermo-mechanical processing (cogging, forging, heat treatment and machining processes) of a jet engine disk component. ![]() Fatigue life of a nickel based superalloy disk component is greatly influenced by the bulk residual stresses resulting from prior thermo-mechanical processing, service conditions, microstructural features and material anomalies such as inclusions and pores. Integrating process modeling capabilities with probabilistic lifing methods will greatly help the jet engine industry in improving fatigue life predictions and risk assessment of jet engine disk components. ![]() The logo of Jaguar Cars is an animal jumping up in the air. In the designing of car logos, designers and brand owners have to pick out the right automotive icons and symbols that will represent the brand well. Mostly, these represent speed, power and strength. In car logos, you might have seen emblems with shields, diagonal, circular or pointed lines, or animals such as bulls, horses and a jaguar. Abstract shapes like signs, icons, and symbols representing mundane objects and animals can really go a long way in making an impression and it’s why they are important in the automotive industry. ![]() Now, these can have a strong impact and can really bring all the elements of design together. When you see these symbols anywhere, you know what they stand for instantly: quality, elegance and trust. Volkswagen launched this new brand design recently with its trademark V and W linked together in a circle. The Toyota logo has circular lines and ovals while the Ford logo is the name of the company highlighted in a blue background. They are all emblems for some of the biggest auto companies in the world. ![]() Take a look at these iconic car brand designs. As a car business owner, you cannot have a logo doesn’t represent your brand values and sends the right message. Now, this is where businesses have to really think about their choice of logo styles. With car logos, you will likely see emblems or combination logos being used instead of only wordmarks as Coca-Cola has or a lettermark that has been made famous by McDonald’s. These are actually logo styles which have been used effectively by these companies to attract consumers. What do you think of when you see Nike or Coca-Cola? Most probably, the hugely popular swoosh of the sports brand and the writing style or script of the soft drink company’s wordmark. The legendary wings in Aston Martin’s brand design have been a part of it since 1926. Honda’s logo has the iconic H which can be recognized on cars, motorcycles and parts as well. Those who do their research well end up with an eye-catching logo graphic that is unique to their brand.īoth these auto companies are known for their cars and machinery. Other than that, researching past and current logo trends can also give you a good idea of what works in the industry. Then, by looking through the logos of your competitors you also make sure that you don’t up with a similar design or copying something from them. Firstly, you find out what the target market wants and likes. It is actually one of the most important steps that can make or break the logo.īy doing all your research, you can improve your brand identity design in so many ways. Both designers and brand owners begin researching before starting the design process. Just like with everything else, car logos also cannot be created without proper research. In order to understand automotive logos, you have to become familiar with the mechanics of how they are made. Their logos are recognized around the world and have been designed to stand out everywhere. Think of luxury car companies like BMW and Mercedes. If you have an appealing logo for your brand, you can create your marketing and branding strategy around it. Now, this is true for every logo design, but with graphics for a car you need to put in a little more effort into creating something unique and memorable. Designing brand identities in the automotive industry requires a lot of creativity and attention to detail. ![]() The handling charge is above & beyond the actual freight charge because of the necessary packaging and handling attributed to the shipping of this type of commodity.
